PSA: Laptop Users -- How to nearly double your FPS

WARNING: Disabling CPU throttling can cause heat/power issues. MONITOR YOUR TEMPS with a program like Speccy or something like that. Use a cooling pad as well.

Turns out laptop CPUs throttle a lot. Your CPU may be clocked at 2.5ghz with a 3.5ghz turbo, but more than likely it is throttling down below 2.0ghz while gaming. It does this for MANY reasons, heat being one of them.

Now, there is a way to get your full 3.5ghz. You can disable intel speedstep in the bios. Problem is, you can't turn it on or off on the fly. Sometimes, throttling is good. Just not while gaming.

That's a program called Throttlestop. While active it disables all CPU throttling.

I was running approximately 1.8ghz while playing archeage because of throttling. I set up throttlestop, opened Speccy to make sure my temps were alright, and my CPU speed increased to 3.5ghz or so.

What happened was my FPS nearly doubled. Archeage is CPU intensive as many of us know--therefore, double the ghz, double the fps.

Never have I used any sort of program give me this sort of performance increase.

I know, there's a lot of gamer snake oil out there.

But this is free and it works--it simply prevents your CPU from underclocking. It's legit--if your CPU isnt running at it's full turbo speed, give it a shot.

And MODS--NO THIS IS NOT AN ADVERTISEMENT.

I'm just some guy who found a free program that can disable Intel Speedstep on the fly (which throttles the CPU) and was astounded at my performance increase.

Jesus christ.
