ok let me just start off by saying why i started this topic....
a wile back (prior to the release of 2.5 on KR AA i made a thread talking about how occultism was underpowered and could use some love which is true of all the trees its the least relevant despite being a main tree.
Naturally most of the ppl who posted on said topic agreed that occultism could use a pick me up and as ususally there were several "im just here to try to argue the other side despite the fact that i agree" its the internet... ppl do that.. but none of thats the reason i made this thread..
the reason i made this thread was a few days later i got a private message... saying:
"Occultism is currently the BEST skillset in 1.7 and has been the top GROUP PVP spec since the inception of the game. The best guilds in NA all run occultism (forestcrow)/(outcry)/(sodium rising).
Here is the video that started it all, it's all about hell spear stacking and killing entire groups of players instantaneously.
Asking for this skillset to be improved is pure madness, it's always been OP in groups and always will be."
which i quickly laughed at him and explained how he has no idea what hes talking about. as anyone knows from the post ive made i use and like occultism by far its by favorite tree however as someone who actually plays AA not to carebear but to PVP both solo and group pvp on a daily basis this made me laugh.
and what made me chuckle even more is the video he posted... was a video from launch. you remember... when the best gear ingame was a p2w guy in illustrious? and everyone else was in gha or quest gear?
the video had a battlemage(ya i know... op class right?) aoeing afk ppl standing near AH in the main citys.
for those who are on a low pop server and have not experienced this or are new to the game. ppl afked around launch because of queues and the only way to avoid getting stuck in a Queue was to afk ingame. so you saw large groups of people just standing/sitting ext... anyone whos played this game since launch knows what i mean.
anyway the guy in the video was in crafted gear (at the time was high end gear early on) using a spellbook and a roast rib (+60 int and increased damage due to spellbook) on people in gha gear and the only thing he did was use hellspear then spam sorcery aoes... 1 skill from occultism Hellspear.. rest were sorcery to kill these afk ppl.
so this guy who sent the pm to me did so essentially saying Occultism is op and this video is proof.
1 skill from occultism was used... (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
But does that mean occultism is underpowered forever? no. shortly after i made that previous post 2.5 came out.
heres a few changes that are just beautiful <3 in regards to occultism
2.0(a slight damage boost but a step in the right dirrection)
new passive to increase damage when using certain occultism skills (hellspear,summoncrows,stillness..ext)
2.5(this update...this is magical)
(Almost every single skill tree is reworked and rebalanced)
Retribution: (currently only reflects 50% of damage after both your and your opponents mitigation is taken into effect)
Retribution after 2.5: same reflect but also gives fear and slow immunity. (tired of getting kited to death? by archers slowing you? Occultism.)
Crippling Mire: currently is a 4 second channel skill that does meh damage and breaks on movement or when cced(which is most of the time) works good as a combo skill with boastful roar but the stun does not last the full 4 seconds just 2)
Crippling mire 2.5: gets turned into a instant cast ability and its slow goes from 30% to 50% for 4 seconds (still combos with boastful but boastful combo is no longer viable in pvp due to the fact that the bullrush combo that leads into boastful now consumed stacks in 2.0)
as for the rest of the tree the damage of this class is increased overall.
This is a massive buff to occultism and when combined with the 2.0 damage increase is amazing.
Occultism will focus more on being mobility class and not stationary class channeling skills and will be better at dealing damage + crippling enemys.
